    Topic 1 Could you tell me something about the places that you visited?

    【Teaching periods】:One
    【Teaching aims and demands】:
    1.Master some new words and phrases:
    be known as, think of, island, PC, license, giraffe, break down, neck, take away
    2.Review attributive clauses which use "that" and "which".
    3.Learn more about the geography of China- Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan.
    4.Improve the students' abilites of reading and writing.
    5.Cultivate the students' patriotism through learning about Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan.
    【Teaching procedure】:
    Step 1 Review
    1.Check the homework.
    Let some students report the project in last period.
    2.Let the students talk about Tibet and West Lake with the given words, using attributive clauses as many as possible.
    Example:
    Tibet, in the southwest of China, the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, Potala Palace, Jokhang Temple, weather, change a lot
    3.Show a map of China to lead to the new lesson.
    T: Now look at the map of China. Today we'll learn about some other places.
    Step 2 Presentation
    1.Ask some students to mark Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan on the map of China.
    2.Poin to the map and ask the questions:
    T: Do you know what place it is?
    Ss:It's Taiwan.
    T: Right. Taiwan is a part of China. It is the largest island that lies in the southwest of China. It is considered as the Treasure Island of China.
    3.Write the following words on the blackboard.
    Taiwan, island, Hong Kong, Macao
    4.Let the students read 1a and find out the new words, key phrases and important sentences.
    5.Explain the key phrases.
    be known as, regard…as…, be considered as…
    Step 3 Consolidation
    1.Divide the students into three groups to stand for Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macao individually. Collect their information together.
    2.Let the students share the information about Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macao with other groups.
    3.Let the students finish 1b and check the answers.
    4.Let the students read 1c and answer the following questions.
    ⑴When did Hong Kong return to the motherland?
    ⑵Why is Hong Kong one of the busiest cities in the world?
    ⑶What can people do in Hong Kong?
    Step 4 Practice
    Let the students finish 2 and 3. Give some explanations if necessary.
    Step 5 Project
    Let the students edit a piece of newspaper with the information they collect according to 1c, and then show it to class.
